MINNERIYA
Minneriya National Park is the place to be catch a glimpse of an elephant gathering, when large numbers of jumbos migrate
during the dry spell at the nearby Wasagamuwa national park.
KAWDULLA
Kaudulla National Park is in the North Central Province and is located in the historic city of Polonnaruwa in Sri Lanka. This is one of the most scenic natural parks in Sri Lanka and is dominated by the Kaudulla tank built by King Mahasena’s sister in the third century AD. Best time to see a lot of majestic elephants is early morning or late evening from July to October. Scenic beauty is evident with the green line of trees at a distance with a blue sky & silvery reservoir and emerald green grasslands which contrast with rock black elephants and is quite a scenery that will charm any traveler from any part of the world.
UDAWALAWA
Udawalawe National Park lies on the boundary of Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces in Sri Lanka. It was created to provide a sanctuary for wild animals displaced by the construction of the Udawalawe Reservoir in Walawe River.
It’s about 165 km from Colombo. It is an important habitat for water birds and elephants. It is a popular tourist destination and the third most visited park in the country. Elephants, spotted deer, endemic monkeys, sloth bears, grey languor, Sambar, jackals, crocodiles, monitor lizards and water buffaloes are regularly seen here. Bird life is just fantastic including sandpiper, woodpeckers, kingfishers, sea eagles, wagtails and storks. Jeep safari with a local expert guide is the best way to enjoy the park’s wonders.
